Many companies consider the mobile phone as a tool to keep their audiences informed
of their latest news, or to sell multimedia content.
Software Solution
Axmor developers implemented a J2ME application (MIDlet)
that can be customized to deliver live streams of news, sports reports, weather
updates, music, stories, or any other content directly to mobile phones. The customer’s
developers implemented a server part of the software, and in turn provided Axmor
J2ME developers with data format specifications.
Noteworthy features of the developed mobile phone application:
- Application customizability
The MIDlet’s structure and appearance can be tuned for any type of content. Menu,
color schemes, screen layout, and text labels are delivered with an update from
the WEB server as an XML file.
Users download the application of their interest to a mobile phone. After the MIDlet
is installed, it regularly requests information updates from the server. Content
is delivered in the hierarchical catalog, convenient for information retrieval.
The first version of the application is designed for music fans, and provides information
about music groups such as news, history, discography, biography, and tour dates.
The MIDlet user can browse, preview, order, and receive media staff like Wall Papers,
Ring tones, or Real tones. All this is accomplished with just a mobile phone – nothing
else.
The buying order is transferred to the server by http protocol, and a WAP PUSH is
used to deliver the content. It works like a WAP PUSH Notification being sent to
the phone. The user clicks on the WAP link, and the content, adjusted to the phone
type, is delivered via MMS.
Axmor mobile developers designed an original full-screen interface for the application.
A vivid graphic is extended beyond the limitation of J2ME interface design tools.
The appearance of the graphic is adjusted to the screen size of the mobile phone.
