Autonomic network management
Business Challenge
The IT staff at SMB companies is facing the challenge of increased costs of problem
identification and resolution in a distributed network environment. Partner’s utility
provides an intelligent interface to integrate and automate responses to events
from a variety of management systems. But still, 80 percent of their time is being
spent analyzing data, just to identify what the problem is. Only through enhancement
of an event correlation capability, can the IBM partner continue to provide competitive
network management services.
During the investigation performed by the customer, it was discovered that IBM Autonomic
Computing Toolkit had a strong potential to compliment customer Utility’s existing
strengths with robust event correlation capabilities.
Software Solution
Axmor Software J2EE developers created the necessary
operations within the AME framework to perform integration with the utility. During
this project, our team demonstrated the ability to learn both products in a short
period of time.
Axmor developed resource models that provide autonomic event correlation services:
- Root cause management,
- Worm detection automation.
Resource models utilize data about the topology of each customer network to conduct
correlations. Network topology can be specified within the developed Topology Builder.
To make the solution work, data must be exchanged between the Utility and AME in
a common standard. Axmor Software implemented Utility classes to parse the AME inherent
Common Base Event standard (CBE) to customer’s proprietary format.
