Business Challenge
The company has a network of geographically distributed offices. To increase work
productivity at all divisions, experience and knowledge from one company location
needs to be quickly, easily, and securely transferred to other company divisions.
The customer required a corporate distributed knowledge base to be established,
with location-specific and platform-specific storages (DB2, MSSQL or XML files,
etc.). The requirement was that the knowledge base had an open architecture so that
new data storage or new client types could easily be added.
Software Solution
Axmor Software, jointly with the customer, developed a knowledge base that centralizes
corporate data storage, access and retrieval. Corporate information can be reached
using a wide range of devices, such as desktop computers, PDA, and
mobile phones (both WML and HDML). Handheld-equipped employees now
can access and use the corporate information 24 hours a day from any location.
The knowledge base supports the following types of document
storage:
- Java EE applications
- Relational database
- Text files stored on mainframes
- Lotus Notes database
The knowledge base allows the customer to enhance internal communication, increase
employee productivity and reduce the cost of information search.
The system enables users to search and retrieve corporate documents, register and
delete new users, assign users access rights, and verify users. Open architecture
allows for easy, fast, and low-cost addition of new types of data storage to meet
changing customer requirements.
