Business Challenge
The information system of the airline consisted of several isolated solutions.
To avoid the related problems of data conflicts and fragmentation such as
duplicate data entry and ineffective reporting, the company decided to implement
the central storage and a corporate portal that would consolidate the information
and pass it from one system to another. Because there were no full and
comprehensive information about all software to integrate, a need for a flexible
and platform-independent solution was eminent.
Corporate storage had to be created on an Oracle platform, but the company
developer was not sure if Oracle provided middleware suited to integrate the
company’s heterogeneous environment. As an alternative, the company wanted to
consider IBM’s integration products as well, but didn’t have enough experience
in IBM technologies. They wanted to outsource integration tasks and looked for
consultants with Oracle and WebSphere knowledge.
Solution
Axmor J2EE consultants evaluated alternate solutions and their potential to meet
customer’s needs and documented the resulting recommendations.
Axmor’s consultants and senior developers learned a proposed data structure of
the designed software systems, and selected the most appropriate technologies -
Oracle ESB and IBM InterChange Server. They evaluated the selected technologies
on a set of technical and business criteria:
- An ability to operate with different database types
- Complexity of integration with third-party databases
- Cost and time of legacy system adjustment
- Cost of the entire solution
- Product Maturity and Distribution
- Availability of the qualified personnel
Oracle and WebSphere consultants made recommendations that outlined the
advantages and disadvantages of each technology. A high-level architecture for
each of the proposed solutions was also developed. It was recommended to the
system integrator that Oracle ESB and IBM InterChange Server will both address
technical issues, and the decision should be taken rather on business
considerations.
