Business Challenge
Song Galaxy (MI-SDN), an international company producing MP3 and MIDI karaoke music
files, developed their own MP3-based karaoke format. They started out selling music
files only to PC users, who could play files using a free desktop application provided
by our customer.
As the competition in the market grew and the entertainment industry moved forward,
Song Galaxy searched for new market niches to enter and new groups of customers
to embrace. The company finally decided to expand into a fast-growing PDA market
and sell music files to Pocket PC users. To enable PDA users to play music on their
devices, Song Galaxy needed to supply them with custom music playing software.
Software Solution
According to customer needs and requirements, Axmor developed an application
for playing karaoke files on PDA devices. The application has a user-friendly
interface. When the music plays, the song lyrics appear on the screen and the syllables
currently being played are highlighted in sync with the music.
Not only does the program allow the user to download and play music files, but it
also has a set of additional features facilitating program use. For example, a user
can adjust font settings according to his/her preference.
The customer emphasized that the program needed to be easy to use, even for novice
users.
Axmor met the requirement. The navigation across the program is very convenient.
A user can easily install/uninstall the program when needed. Free PocketPC player
is available for download as a demo on the Web.
According to Claus Uecker, a project coordinator at Song Galaxy, the company was
very satisfied with the work Axmor did. They were particularly impressed by the
rapid development, as the project was finished ahead of time. The customer
eventually asked Axmor to develop a plug-in for Windows Media player and a new desktop
application for playing karaoke files on PCs.
After the developed application succeeded on the market, the customer decided to
port this product on J2ME platform to increase the market share.
Axmor has required skills and technologies in all major mobile platforms, and helped
our customer to realize this idea.
