Business Challenge
Our customer decided to extend their desktop solution for marina / property management
with a mobile application. Marinas and dock spaces for boats are numerous, and inventory
managers usually use paper when walking through and monitoring property. The developed
mobile application had to serve for quick tracking, and eliminate paper work.
Software Solution
Axmor’s PDA developers designed an application that
allows a user to walk through a marina and verify that each rental location contains
the correct occupant using a PDA device.
The PDA contains data about the occupants of each dock space and storage location,
which are downloaded from a desktop application. The user can find a required location
in seconds by scanning its barcode. For each location, the occupant data are displayed
on the PDA and the user verifies them. The inspection results can then be uploaded
to the central system.
For barcode scanning, the application supports a range of devices:
- SD Socket Scanner (SDIO)
- SD Socket Scanner (SDIO)
- Symbol devices with built-in barcode scanners
The application addresses all critical inventory needs of storage rental operators:
- Adds and remove boats
- Performs periodical property verifications
- Scans barcodes for fast and error-free input
- Tracks status of physical inventory
The developed application runs on both PDA platforms: Palm and
Pocket PC, and users can flexibly select the most appropriate device.
