Business Challenge
Our customer needed to have accurate coordinates of recently-discovered road defects,
along with images and descriptions, for proper maintenance planning.
Software Solution
Axmor developers created an application that allows
Windows Mobile smartphones to capture images, correlate them with GPS data, and
send the created report to the server over GPRS.
Our customer’s road engineers can now use camera phones to
create accurate defect reports:
- Noting positions of road defects
Road inspectors take images of road defects using camera phones. When a picture
is captured, the phone reads location coordinates from the MNEA compatible GPS device
connected via Bluetooth. The engineer can then add comments and save the report
on the phone.
- Sharing reports with the office
The smartphone regularly checks the availability of the GSM network and sends the
saved reports to the office as soon as the network is accessible. Reports with pictures
are packed and transmitted to the realtor’s server over GPRS.
- Integration with office software
Our customer needed to streamline the planning of repairs. Axmor’s Windows Mobile
developers created a server part of the software system that depicts locations on
the map according to the received camera reports. This application is integrated
with our customer’s in-house resource management system for further work planning.
Our customer plans to extend the software with the ability to locate problem areas
on the road. The phone will analyze coordinates received from the GPS device and
give an audio signal when an area of defects is encountered.
