Business Challenge
Our customer needed a system to track the actual location of its delivery vans in
the field. Hence, location coordinates obtained from GPS had to be delivered over
a mobile phone to the company’s server and used to mark the position of each vehicle
on a map.
Software Solution
Axmor developers created a software solution that uses
Windows Mobile Smartphones to retrieve data from a GPS device and send it periodically
to the server over GPRS.
Our customer was so kind to provide us a video showing the PDA software in action.
The person doing the driving is their Norwegian distributor of 3dtracking, and he's using the PDA software to be tracked by the site doing the review.
He is talking in Norwegian, but it's pretty easy to see what's happening.
To open the video:
1 - click here
2 - scroll halfway down the screen and click the 'video' icon
3 - the video should now open up for you to see
Our developers recommended Windows Mobile Smartphone for solution implementation,
which reduced development time compared to other mobile phone platforms. The server
side was implemented using .Net technology and Google digital map.
The developed software provides a list of useful features
for managing van routes:
- GPS Coordinate Submission
Geographical coordinates are received by a mobile phone from a GPS device connected
over Bluetooth. Every five minutes the mobile phone sends vehicle coordinates to
the server using SMS messages wirelessly and using HTTP protocol over a GPRS connection.
The company’s server uses incoming coordinates to draw each vehicle’s route on the
digital map available for managers of logistics.
The software allows easy distribution of personal job orders. Mangers can select
the driver who is nearest the destination point, and assign a work order by an SMS
to the driver’s smartphone.
The software is integrated with Windows Calendar application for job tracking. When
received by the driver, the work order is saved in the personal task manager on
the mobile phone.
